Motorcycling Australia and the ASBK Management Team have unveiled plans to transition the Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) to a summer calendar starting in 2027.
This strategic move aims to synchronise ASBK with other major superbike championships worldwide, enhancing the competition's profile and providing a more consistent racing experience for teams and fans.

The transition will commence with a condensed 2026 season featuring five rounds from February to June. The season will kick off at Phillip Island alongside the World Superbike Championship and conclude with the ASBK Grand Finale at Queensland Raceway. This shortened season serves as a bridge to the new summer format.

From October 2026, the ASBK will adopt a summer schedule spanning seven rounds. The series will begin in October and continue through November and December, with a break over the holiday period. Racing will resume in January, February, and March, culminating in the finale at The Bend in April 2027.

Peter Doyle, CEO of Motorcycling Australia, stated that this shift has been in planning for some time. Aligning ASBK with the global racing calendar is expected to attract international competitors and audiences, elevating the championship's status on the world stage.

For Australian riders and teams, this change offers several advantages. Competing during the warmer months provides more favourable weather conditions, potentially leading to better performance and safety. Additionally, the alignment with international schedules may open opportunities for Australian riders to participate in overseas events without conflicting commitments.

Fans can look forward to a more dynamic and engaging racing season, with events spread throughout the summer months. The new schedule is anticipated to boost attendance and viewership, contributing positively to the sport's growth in Australia.

As the ASBK prepares for this significant transition, stakeholders are encouraged to stay informed about upcoming announcements regarding specific dates and venues for the 2027 season. This move marks a new era for Australian superbike racing, promising exciting developments for the sport's future.
